Flying business class with Qatar Airways: the world’s best business class (2026)

upgrade business class Qatar Airways
Diana Bancale blogger

Every time I find myself flying long-haul routes in economy class, I always think: “Next time I won’t spare any expense and I’ll upgrade to business class.”

Then I see the price difference, get discouraged, and end up flying economy again.

This year, however, on the occasion of my solo trip to Thailand, I decided I deserved a proper gift. I’ve seen so many places that I no longer have that one specific dream trip to give myself. The difference now lies in how I travel and in the overall quality of the experience.

One of my long-standing obsessions (which I’ve also put on my vision board and even as my computer wallpaper) was flying business class with Qatar Airways: one of the most outstanding airlines and the one offering the best business class in the world, according to Skytrax’s “World’s Top 100 Airlines 2025”.

business class seats Qatar Airways

After several second thoughts, one evening at dinner with friends I finally decided to do it. I opened the Qatar Airways app, clicked “upgrade to business class,” and moved from economy to the magical world of business class travelers. After all, I work, I’m almost 43, and I’m a good person, so I deserved it.

Flying from Bangkok to Doha in Qsuite

Because the price is significant, I upgraded to business class only for the return leg, from Bangkok to Milan Malpensa with a stopover in Doha.

On the first 7-hour flight from Bangkok to Doha, completely unexpectedly, I was lucky enough to fly in Qsuite: a real private cabin with a closing door, offering total privacy and comfort.

On the Doha–Malpensa leg, Qsuite was not available, but I still had a very comfortable seat. This depends on the aircraft, as not all planes are equipped with Qsuite. In any case, the experience was excellent on both flights.

How to upgrade to business class

Normally, unless you’re extremely lucky and get a free upgrade due to overbooking, the only way is… by paying.

You can either buy a business class ticket directly or purchase an economy ticket and, when available, request an upgrade via the Qatar Airways app or website by logging into your account. Both the app and the website have a dedicated upgrade section.

Prices vary from day to day, so I kept an eye on it for several days and bought it when it was cheaper (in my case, about 20 days before departure).

Cost: how much does it cost?

It depends. For one leg I paid €1,300, on top of the €660 I had already spent on the economy ticket. Prices vary by flight, availability, and demand.

Business class check-in

The first advantage of flying business class is having a dedicated check-in line, which is usually much less crowded and faster.

If you’re not checking luggage and your flight allows it, you can check in online and go straight to security. Otherwise, you’ll use the business class desk, where they’ll hand you the much-coveted boarding pass with silver edges that says “Business Class” I won’t deny it, I walked around the entire airport holding it in plain sight.

Baggage allowance with Qatar Airways business class

When flying business class with Qatar Airways, you can bring:

-up to 15 kg of hand luggage (maximum two pieces) plus one personal item

40 kg of checked baggage

Qatar Airways airport lounges

A Qatar Airways business class ticket includes access to the airline’s airport lounges.

For me, lounge access is already routine thanks to American Express, which grants entry to selected lounges worldwide.

However, Qatar lounges are reserved exclusively for Qatar business and first class passengers. I visited the lounges in Bangkok and Doha, and the service was impeccable. Staff welcomed guests and even offered luggage storage if needed.

Both lounges had buffet areas and à la carte restaurants, comfortable seating areas, and showers, which I used during the second leg.

food and drinks business class Qatar Airways

In the enormous Doha lounge, complete with a huge fountain, I had a long layover and a night flight, so I even managed to sleep for about three hours on the loungers in the relaxation area.

Food and drinks, needless to say, were of the highest quality, with a dream-like dessert selection.

Boarding in business class

Boarding usually happens by groups. On the first flight, business class boarded first, with priority lanes and direct access. On the second flight, economy boarded first, followed by business class, which was taken to the aircraft by a special bus with much more comfortable seats.

At the aircraft entrance, business class passengers are welcomed by a personal flight attendant who escorts you to your seat, explains the features of your space (Qsuite in my first flight), and presents the à la carte menu, allowing you to order food and drinks whenever you want, at any time.

Qatar Airways business class seats

Qsuite

The first business class flight from Bangkok was a dream. I had a Qsuite window seat with no one next to me, complete with a sliding door.

The space includes a fully reclining seat (with a mattress topper provided when it’s time to sleep), two pillows, a blanket, storage compartments, a TV screen with remote control, a dining table, a side table, a vanity compartment with mirror, noise-canceling headphones, a bottle of water, and a beauty kit with Diptyque products.

qsuite business class qatar airways

The space is incredibly comfortable, you practically have room to stand up and stretch. I liked it so much that I didn’t want to sleep, just to enjoy every minute of the journey. I worked on my laptop using Wi-Fi (one hour is free, then it costs $10 for the full flight), watched a movie, ate, and relaxed with the seat fully reclined while listening to music.

Standard business class

On the second leg, the seat was a standard fully reclining business class seat without a door. The service was the same, and since it was a night flight, I slept like a queen for most of the journey, asking to be woken up only for breakfast.

They also provided pajamas and slippers, and the flight was unbelievably comfortable. I slept better than in my own bed.

Menu and drinks onboard

When you board, you’ll find two à la carte menus at your seat: one for drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic, including champagne) and one for food.

The best part is that you can order whatever you want, whenever you want, and as many times as you want.

I had already eaten in the lounge, so I wasn’t very hungry, but I still enjoyed lunch, breakfast, several glasses of champagne, and non-alcoholic cocktails.

For lunch I ordered:

-a selection of hummus and dips with pita bread

– fish with rice

-a cheese selection

  I skipped dessert.

For breakfast, I had:

-yogurt with fruit

-an omelette with cheese

-an avocado smoothie

-an espresso coffee that tasted just like at a café (not the watery economy-class coffee).

Snacks and sweets are also always available and can be taken directly from the counter.

Honest review of flying business class with Qatar Airways

In conclusion, as you may have guessed, this business class upgrade was a wonderful experience that was worth every cent.

I didn’t arrive “fresh”, since I spent almost two full days traveling but I was well rested, without the muscle pain you get from sleeping in awkward positions in economy, and extremely satisfied.

What I appreciated the most:

– Bathrooms were always spotless and cleaned after every use

-The Diptyque kit included high-quality and very useful travel products (face cream, body lotion, lip balm), plus socks, earplugs, and an extremely comfortable and soft eye mask

– Large TV screen

– High-quality noise-canceling headphones

– Total privacy in the Qsuite

– Freedom to eat when you’re hungry, not on a fixed schedule, and to choose whatever you want

– Friendly, impeccable cabin crew, attentive to every detail and incredibly kind

The only downside: the Wi-Fi didn’t work well. Even though I paid $10 to extend it for the whole flight, it stopped working after the first free hour.

All in all, it’s an experience absolutely worth having and a completely different way of traveling.

The only real problem will be going back to flying economy class afterwards.

Heymondo free App, the travel insurance app every traveler needs (+5% discount)

Diana Bancale blogger

Since I travel a lot, one of the most important topics I cover in my blog is the need to travel safely and always have a travel insurance. That’s why lately I wrote a honest review about Heymondo, the travel insurance I use for all my trips since 2019.

Today, I’d like to talk about one of the most useful features Heymondo has: its free APP.

Heymondo App is a free mobile app designed to simplify travel experience, giving access to medical chat, claims management, and your policy documents, all from your phone. I’ve personally used it on several trips, and in this article I’ll share how it works, why it’s so useful, and how you can also get a 5% discount on your Heymondo insurance.

What is the Heymondo App?

The Heymondo App is available for free on both iOS and Android. You can download it using the link on Heymondo website or looking for “Heymondo” in Google Store or App Store.

It works as your digital travel assistant, offering:

  • 24/7 medical chat

  • Claims management directly from your phone

  • Offline access to all your documents

  • Emergency contacts at hand

Unlike other insurance companies that only give you a phone number to call, Heymondo offers a full mobile platform that cuts down stress and bureaucracy. Honestly, I remember the hassle to make an international phone call every time an incident come and you are traveling. With Heymondo app, this is not happening anymore!

Heymondo free APP

Features of the Heymondo App

Emergency assistance anywhere in the world 24/7

If you have an emergency, with Heymondo app you can call the insurance assistance 24/7 simply using internet connection, as it was a Whatsapp call. That means you don’t have to spend money in international phone calls.

The app instantly connects you with the travel insurance support, who can guide you to the right medical facilities wherever you are.

On my very first holiday in Tenerife, I suddenly had a severe cystitis episode. Through the Heymondo App I contacted assistance, and they immediately directed me to the closest medical center covered by my policy. I was treated without having to pay anything upfront.

24/7 medical chat

You can connect with a doctor instantly, wherever you are, without having to look for hospitals on your own. Perfect for small issues that don’t require rushing to an emergency room.

I found it very useful in Vietnam, when I developed a painful stye in my eye. Instead of panicking, I used the Heymondo chat to speak directly with a doctor, who guided me on how to treat it safely.

Then, after I bought medicine at pharmacy, I saved the receipts and I had them reimbursed by Heymondo, after uploading them via app.

Digital claims management

No more paperwork or complicated calls. You can open a claim directly from the app, upload photos and receipts, and track the status in real time.

During a trip to Hawaii, my luggage was lost at the airport. I was able to open the claim right there, on the spot, using the Heymondo App. I uploaded the airline’s lost baggage documents and handled everything without having to wait until I got back home.

Of course I had to buy some clothes and shoes since my belongings were all in my suitcase. I saved the receipts and then I uploaded once again in the app to get my money back from Heymondo.

Policy documents offline

All your insurance details, expiration date, certificates and emergency numbers are stored in the app and remain accessible even if you don’t have internet.

Why using Heymondo App

  • Convenience: no need for international phone calls.

  • Speed: instant access to doctors and claims.

  • Peace of mind: reliable assistance anywhere.

Why travel insurance is essential

Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences, but it also comes with risks. Lost luggage, medical emergencies abroad, flight cancellations, or accidents can turn a dream trip into a financial nightmare. Travel insurance is not just an extra, it’s a fundamental tool that ensures peace of mind while you are away from home.

Many travelers overlook insurance because they assume nothing will happen, or they rely only on credit card coverage, which often turns out to be very limited. A comprehensive provider like Heymondo ensures that you’re properly protected in real-life situations.

How to use the internet abroad, the best options for travelers (2026)

how to use internet abroad
Diana Bancale blogger

Having internet abroad is no longer a luxury, it’s almost a necessity. From checking Google Maps, booking a taxi, paying at restaurants, or even accessing your hotel room, connectivity makes traveling smoother and often less stressful.

Over the years, I’ve tried almost every option to stay connected during my travels: roaming, local SIM cards, pocket Wi-Fi, and, more recently, digital eSIMs. Each comes with advantages and drawbacks, and depending on your travel style, one might be better than the others.

Here’s a detailed guide based on my personal experience.

how to use internet abroad

Using data roaming with your home carrier

The first option most travelers think of is simply using their existing SIM card abroad. It’s the most straightforward choice because you don’t need to buy anything new or change settings: just land and keep using your phone as usual.

Pros:

  • The easiest option: you don’t need to change SIM cards or set up anything new.
  • You keep your regular number, so you can receive calls and SMS as usual.

Cons:

  • Costs can be shockingly high. Even with “travel packs,” data is often limited and expensive.
  • I’ve personally forgotten to switch off roaming a few times and ended up with very unpleasant phone bills.

Best for: Very short trips when you only need minimal data.

how to stay connected abroad

Buying a local SIM card

This used to be my go-to solution when I traveled. Local SIM cards can give you great amounts of data for a relatively low price.

Pros:

  • Usually cheaper than roaming.
  • You get local rates and good coverage within that country.

Cons:

  • The process can be inconvenient, especially after a long flight. Arriving in India, for example, I remember waiting a long time to register and activate my SIM: it wasn’t exactly the most relaxing start to a trip.
  • At airports, you often have to queue at small kiosks, sometimes for an hour, just to get set up.
  • If you don’t buy one at the airport, you need to find a local shop in the city.
  • You lose access to your regular number unless you have a dual-SIM phone.

Best for: Long stays in one country, when you have time and patience to set it up.

Digital eSIMs

This is by far my favorite solution now. I started to use Holafly digital eSIMS a few years ago and this has totally changed my way of traveling in a better and easier way.

eSIMs are virtual SIM cards you can buy online and install on your phone simply by scanning a QR code. No need to insert or swap physical SIMs.

I first tried an eSIM in China, and it was a lifesaver. In China, most things (payments, restaurant menus, even access to tourist attractions), are done via apps.

holafly discount code

Without internet, I would have been completely stuck. Thanks to the eSIM, I was online the moment I landed and could use Alipay, order a Didi (the Chinese Uber), and navigate the metro without problems.

More recently, during my trip to Baja California Sur, Mexico, internet access wasn’t always reliable. Wi-Fi wasn’t available everywhere, especially in remote areas like beaches or small towns. Having an eSIM allowed me to stay connected, use Google Maps for long drives, and even share my trip in real time.

✈️ Do you have an international trip coming up? Stay connected with Holafly!

With the Holafly digital eSIM, you get unlimited data in over 160 countries. No more surprises with roaming fees!

And for you, as a reader of my blog, there’s an exclusive 5% discount!

Get your eSIM with a 5% discount!

Use discount code: BANCALE

Pros:

  • Instant activation: you can set it up before departure and be connected the moment you land.
  • No need to look for shops, queue at airports, or fill out endless registration forms.
  • Flexible plans: single-country or regional (perfect if you’re traveling through several countries in Europe or Asia).
  • No extra devices needed.

Cons:

  • Not all phones support eSIM (though most newer models do).
  • You don’t keep your usual phone number for calls/SMS (but you can still use WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.).

Best for: Solo travelers, frequent flyers, and anyone who wants a stress-free, modern solution.

-Tip for readers: I offer an exclusive 5% discount on Holafly digital eSIMs.

Portable wi-fi devices (pocket wi-fi)

Also known as pocket wi-fi, these are small devices that connect to local networks and create a personal hotspot you can share across multiple devices.

Pros:

  • Ideal for groups or families, since one device can connect several phones, tablets, and laptops.
  • You can usually order it in advance and pick it up at the airport.

Cons:

  • You need to carry and charge an extra gadget.
  • If you lose it, fees can be high.
  • Rental costs add up, especially for longer trips.

Best for: Families, groups of friends, or business trips with multiple devices.

So, what’s the best way to stay connected abroad?

Short city break: Roaming could be enough, but double-check the costs.

One-month stay in one country: A local SIM gives you the best value, if you don’t mind the hassle.

Group or family trip: A Fly/pocket Wi-Fi makes sense since everyone can connect at once.

Solo trips and multi-country travel: A digital eSIM is the easiest and most flexible option.

use internet while traveling

Final travel tips

  • Always check if your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible before traveling.
  • Compare single-country vs. regional plans if you’ll be moving around.
  • Download your eSIM or book your Fly device before you leave, so you’re connected as soon as you arrive.

Don’t forget my 5% discount link to save a little extra on your Holafly eSIM.

Traveling without internet can make even simple things unnecessarily complicated. With the right option you can explore the world stress-free and stay connected wherever you go.
