Where to eat in Naples? Discover the best restaurants in Naples: from the typical “trattorias” to seafood restaurants where you can eat with sea view in Naples.

This is a question many people ask me, knowing that I am from Naples, especially in recent years when tourism has boomed.
In addition to Neapolitan pizza (my favorite dish, food of the gods), Neapolitan cuisine offers a wide variety of dishes, made with fresh and local ingredients such as tomato sauce, olive oil and mozzarella di bufala. from a wide variety of appetizers to first courses, to tasty main courses and side dishes.
To try these specialties, either you know a Neapolitan mother/grandmother, or I recommend going to eat at one of the many typical restaurants in Naples.
It is difficult to make a choice but below I have indicated some of the most famous and popular ones.

When a tourist asks a Neapolitan “where to eat in Naples,” one of the first answers is Trattoria da Nennella, which not surprisingly is one of the most famous restaurants in the center of Naples.
The cuisine is true Neapolitan, with traditional first courses such as pasta with potatoes and provolone cheese and pasta and beans. The atmosphere is very folksy with the waiters speaking in Neapolitan using joking and often quite “colorful” expressions. If you come to eat at this restaurant, be warned, it is important to be able to take a joke!

In the Vomero neighborhood is this family-run typical Neapolitan trattoria, established in 2012.
This is a great place to eat typical traditional dishes you’d eat on a Sunday lunch at your grandmother’s house.
From the giant potato crocchè to the Neapolitan ragout (cooked strictly for hours and hours on low heat…), from delicious pasta with potatoes and provolone cheese to spaghetti alla Nerano. In addition, at Scugnizzi’s you can also try an excellent pizza (margherita and not only), soft and digestible!

One of the most famous historical restaurants in Naples is “da Mimì alla ferrovia.”

It is a historic eatery, founded in 1943, during the war, by Ida and Emilio, known as Mimì.
Its genuine cuisine did not take long to be appreciated, thanks in part to the restaurant’s strategic location in the heart of the city and close to transit routes.
Now in its third generation, it carries on with success and recognition the cuisine of the Neapolitan tradition with a hint of more refined novelties.
Among the culinary offerings you can try typical dishes from both land and sea such as eggplant parmigiana, crocchè di patate, anchovies ‘mbuttunate, pasta alla genovese, spaghetti with clams, fried cod and meatballs with meat sauce.

If you are looking for a restaurant where you can eat on the waterfront, I recommend one of the best restaurants in Naples by the sea: trattoria Antonio la Trippa, on Via Partenope.
Folklore and tradition hover in all the details of the restaurant, where there is a typically Neapolitan air of yesteryear with dishes and prints on the walls and tools and utensils of the past on display.
The cuisine is Neapolitan and homemade, with dishes served directly in the pan such as savoy cabbage soup, meatloaf, and sandwich with ricotta and cicoli.

In the neighborhood of Forcella, near the Napoli Centrale station, there is this historic osteria, established in 1947 that serves local food. Appetizers and seafood dishes are among the house specialties, all prepared in the Neapolitan tradition, with fresh, first-rate ingredients.
The restaurant also has a well-stocked wine list with some of the best wineries in Campania: white wine, red wine and sparkling wine.

Neapolitan cuisine is among the most varied in Italy, and in addition to have the best pizza, it offers a wide selection of land dishes and seafood specialties.
Here then are some of the best seafood restaurants to eat at in Naples!

Among the most famous Naples restaurants and among the most popular for fresh seafood cuisine. It is located in Marechiaro, in a beautiful sea-view location and is one of the city’s historic eateries, active since 1942.
Romantic atmosphere and Neapolitan seafood cuisine with quality ingredients make this restaurant popular with a chic clientele and show business personalities.

In the beautiful setting of Borgo Marinari is another historic restaurant in Naples where you can eat seafood and more. Zì Teresa’s terrace is practically on the sea facing the Castel dell’Ovo, so imagine what a beautiful view!.
Among the typical dishes you can try specialties such as Neapolitan fresella, seafood scialatielli, fritto di paranza, impepata di cozze, mozzarella di bufala and a selection of raw fish.

Historic, family-run Neapolitan restaurant furnished with antiques, located near Piazza Borsa.
It serves pasta, pizza, and seafood dishes such as spaghetti with clams, roasted amberjack, salt cod, potato-crusted fillets of snapper, and more.

Palazzo Petrucci was the first Neapolitan restaurant to receive a Michelin star. It is located in a beautiful location, a historic palace on the beach of Sant’Anna in Posillipo but owes its name to its previous location, which was Palazzo Petrucci.
The restaurant offers traditional dishes reinterpreted with a modern twist, such as: seafood ragout or scampi crudo with friarielli centrifuge.

Clearly this is a nice restaurant with high prices, so maybe I recommend it for a special occasion, a romantic dinner or even if you are traveling alone and want to treat yourself with a unique gastronomic experience.

TIP FROM A LOCAL: Fancy trying the best pizza margherita in Naples? The city is the birthplace of pizza, so you will have a lot of choice! Some of the best pizzeria are: Pizzeria Di Matteo, Sorbillo (which also had a resturant in New York) and Antica Pizzeria da Michele (founded in the late 1800s). Only thing you need to take into account: never ask a person from Naples to put pineapple on the pizza!

Seafood restaurant (mostly raw, as the name reveals) located in Naples on Via Carlo Poerio, among the best in town.
Elegant and modern location, dishes that are true works of art made with high quality raw materials and a well-stocked wine cellar. You will not only find raw fish, however, but also seafood first courses such as spaghetti with cannolicchi and fettucce con soffritto di mare.

TIP FROM A LOCAL: You don’t feel like sitting at a table restaurant? Then try some typical street food such as pizza fritta, fried pizza dough filled with buffalo mozzarella, ricotta cheese and salami! You can have on of the best in Antica Pizza Fritta da Zia Esterina Sorbillo.
